We drove down to Sherwood Orchards again to pick Loring peaches. The trees were absolutely sagging under the weight of fruit, often suffering broken limbs.
A fire had ravaged several acres of the orchard. We chatted with the owner for a few minutes and he told us the details casually, as if it was just another day at the orchard. Half his face was burnt and scarred. It started when his lawn mover bag spontaneously combusted.
We picked 60 pounds of peaches and 7 gallons of blackberries!
Our picnic consisted of mayonaise and roasted pepper sandwiches.
